Additional Detroit Pistons Info

Established in 1941 as the Zollner Pistons and based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the Pistons originally played in the National Basketball League (NBL) and the Basketball Association of America (BAA). They joined the NBA in 1949 when the league was created from the merger of the BAA and the NBL.

The franchise moved to Detroit in 1957 and the Detroit Pistons were born. Despite having talented players, the team posted losing records for 13 seasons.

Detroit Pistons Ticket Holders saw their team’s fortunes change in 1981 with the drafting of superstar point guard Isiah Thomas, who was soon joined by Bill Laimbeer, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman, and Vinnie Johnson. The Detroit Pistons of this era were nicknamed the “Bad Boys” due to their extremely physical style of play. Their on-court aggression paid off as the team made 3 consecutive trips to the NBA finals from 1998 to 1990. The Detroit Pistons lost their first appearance, but captured NBA Championships the following 2 years.

The Pistons overhauled their roster in the early 2000s, adding Ben Wallace, Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, and Rasheed Wallace. These players led Detroit to a third NBA Championship in 2004 and a finals appearance in 2005, which they lost. Most of the key players from this run had left the team by 2010, and the Pistons then entered into a rebuilding period where they missed the playoffs for 5 consecutive seasons. The Pistons returned to the post-season in 2016, but were eliminated in the opening round.

Detroit Pistons Ticket Holders have seen their team go through ups and downs over the decades. Nevertheless, fans continue to pack the Little Caesars Arena to cheer on this storied franchise. Fans of the Detroit Pistons can get tickets to all home games at Golden Tickets.
